I’m an active ally


As an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and other underrepresented groups, it’s important for me to find opportunities where I'm actually making a difference. Participating in Grant Thornton's business resource groups (BRGs) is the perfect way for me to take my allyship above and beyond.

Difficult situations and hard conversations happen at any workplace. Even though Grant Thornton has thousands of colleagues, my office feels like a tight-knit community where you can speak your mind. Everyone's committed to a culture of psychological and emotional safety, and I know I can go to leaders in my Salt Lake City office to be heard — because they care about my happiness and safety.

Work doesn’t have to be a cold professional setting. From my first conversation with local leadership, I felt comfortable, and when I come into the office, people seem genuinely happy to see me. Everyone is down to connect and make jokes — and because of that, I'm willing to open up and be vulnerable.

of the skiing. I’ve always lived in Utah and my grandpa, Junior, is a renowned skier. Skiing has always been part of my life; now, I’m teaching my four-year-old daughter, Rory, how to ski.

After surviving a stroke…
at age 30, I lost my ability to sing professionally. Videography became a new creative outlet for me. Now, I help create videos for Equality GT, the firm’s LGBTQ+ and allies BRG.

to know that I used to perform in professional musical theatre. Both my parents teach singing as a career, so my entire family was trained from a young age.

my quirks and obsessions like “RuPaul’s Drag Race" and “Star Wars” — and I’m always willing to talk about them. I try to stay open with the hope that others will feel safe to be themselves, too.
